Die  BioCampus MultiPilot (BMP) ist eine Mehrzweck-Demonstrationsanlage, die im Hafen Straubing-Sand entsteht. In der BMP werden Kunden ihre Verfahren und Prozesse der industriellen Biotechnologie bis zum vorindustriellen Maßstab weiterentwickeln, testen, skalieren und optimieren, deren Wirtschaftlichkeit validieren und  Produktmuster fertigen.

Der technische Fokus liegt auf der Nutzung lignocelluloshaltiger Rohstoffe, biochemischer Produktumwandlung im Maßstab bis zu 25 Kubikmeter und  einer flexibel anpassbaren Aufarbeitungstechnik. Der Freistaat Bayern unterstützt die Errichtung der BMP über eine Investitionsfördermaßnahme in erheblichem Umfang. Dabei ist ein diskriminierungsfreier Zugang und höchster IP-Schutz für die internationalen Nutzer von Start-ups über Großkonzerne bis zu Forschungseinrichtungen garantiert. Neben Maschinen und Anlagen werden den Kunden synergetische Dienstleistungen und Infrastruktur angeboten.

Dazu zählen Prozessentwicklung, Vermittlung von Partnern aus Industrie, Forschung, Recht und Finanzierung, Beratung und Pre-Tests für Unternehmen, die z.B. Investitionen in eigene Demonstratoren planen: ein zielorientiertes Portfolio, um  Industrial Biotech-Projekte voranzutreiben.

Auch wenn bis zur geplanten Inbetriebnahme der BMP Mitte 2027 noch einige Zeit vergeht: die Anlage wird das Innovationsökosystem vor Ort, aber auch die industrielle Bioökonomie international sinnvoll ergänzen. Die BMP bildet damit einen zentralen Baustein unseres BioTech Scale-up Hubs in Straubing, das neben der Anlage auch die Erweiterung des Technologie- und Gründerzentrums mit modernsten Labor-, Büro- und Eventflächen, das Bio Scale-up Center der Technischen Universität München, Campus Straubing, sowie Unterstützungsformate für Start-ups und ein aktives Netzwerk umfasst.

The BioCampus MultiPilot (BMP) is a multi-purpose demonstration facility currently under construction at Straubing-Sand Port. At the BMP, clients will further develop, test, scale up and optimise their industrial biotechnology processes up to pre-industrial scale, validate their economic viability and produce product samples.

The technical focus is on the use of lignocellulosic raw materials, biochemical product conversion on a scale of up to 25 cubic metres and a flexibly adaptable processing technology. The Free State of Bavaria is providing substantial support for the establishment of the BMP through an investment promotion scheme. This guarantees non-discriminatory access and the highest level of IP protection for international users, ranging from start-ups and large corporations to research institutions. In addition to machinery and plant, customers are offered synergistic services and infrastructure.

These include process development, matchmaking with partners from industry, research, legal and finance sectors, consultancy and pre-tests for companies planning, for example, to invest in their own demonstrators: a targeted portfolio designed to drive forward industrial biotech projects.

Even though there is still some time to go before the BMP is due to come on stream in mid-2027, the facility will be a valuable addition not only to the local innovation ecosystem but also to the international industrial bioeconomy. The BMP thus forms a central component of our BioTech Scale-up Hub in Straubing, which, in addition to the facility, also comprises the expansion of the technology and start-up centre with state-of-the-art laboratory, office and event spaces, the Bio Scale-up Centre at the Technical University of Munich, Straubing Campus, as well as support programmes for start-ups and an active network.
