The BioCampus in Straubing-Sand harbour

Ecosystem for innovations in the bio-based economy

The BioCampus is an area of around 12 hectares in the Straubing-Sand harbour, where everything revolves around the bio-based economy. Established companies and start-ups will find an ideal environment here to work on innovative processes and products that contribute to the raw materials transition and the energy revolution. The focus here is on the use of renewable raw and residual materials and closing cycles.

The Straubing-Sand harbour offers the right environment for this: the TGZ provides space, flexible offices and laboratories. Environmentally friendly and efficient biomass logistics can be realised via the Danube connection.

With our expertise as a location development and business promotion agency and a broad network, we ensure that all components of this ecosystem work together. Our focus areas: Start-up support and start-up promotion as well as innovation transfer through networking and infrastructure development and provision.

Cooperation with relevant stakeholders and partners from research, industry and politics at regional, Bavarian, federal and EU level is particularly important in all of these activities. From 2024, a unique, innovative infrastructure will also be created on the BioCampus: this is when the go-ahead will be given for the construction of a multi-purpose demonstration facility called BioCampus MultiPilot, which is subsidised by the Free State of Bavaria.

In this facility, companies and research institutions from all over the world will be able to scale up their industrial biotechnology processes from laboratory to industrial scale. In this way, we are helping to establish an ecosystem for innovation in the bio-based economy in Straubing and beyond.
